Who we are

Crown Jewels for Mental Health was established in 2010 in memory of Rosario (Roy) Scalcione, who lived in Etobicoke and died by suicide on June 1, 1999, just 30 days shy of his 21st birthday. With a commitment to ending the stigma and increasing awareness of mental illness, Crown Jewels for Mental Health has raised over $115,000 in support of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) Foundation and Trillium Health Partners through annual events and other fundraising activities.

For 2024, Crown Jewels for Mental Health has chosen to align with EveryMind Mental Health Services

Meet the Members

  • Marie

    FOUNDER

When Marie feels the need for a mental health break, she turns to meditation and spending time with her loved ones. She also makes it a point to be there for friends and family, offering a listening ear when they are struggling.

  • Erika

    CO-FOUNDER

When she feels her mental health needs attention, Erika turns to familiar practices that have supported her, such as yoga, spending time outdoors, meditation, and gratitude journaling. When others are struggling, she strives to be present and listen to their needs.

  • Andrea

    MEMBER

Andrea understands that sometimes you might not have the right words, but offering a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen works just as well. Prioritizing your own mental health and taking time when you need it—without guilt—is the best way to be there for those around you.

  • Jessica

    MEMBER

Surrounding herself with loved ones always helps lift her up during tough times. When someone is in need, she has found that active listening is key and always tries to let the person know she is there to offer love and support.

  • Joella

    MEMBER

Spending time with loved ones or engaging in activities she enjoys really helps her wellbeing. When it comes to others, she always offers a safe place for them to talk freely and express their emotions without gaslighting, judgement, or negativity.

  • Josie

    MEMBER

When it comes to helping others, Josie focuses on sitting and listening. She doesn’t pretend to know exactly what they’re going through, because everyone’s experience is different. Her approach is to help them find the right counseling and, most importantly, to be there for them—ready for their call, day or night.

  • Lynne

    MEMBER

Lynne shows up for herself by trying to give herself grace. She volunteers as a peer supporter for a charity called Heartache2Hope, where she offers support to others who have lost loved ones to suicide. She also co-facilitates open and closed groups. By talking about her loss and her grief journey, Lynne feels she is making a difference.

  • Rosanna

    MEMBER

To decompress, she practices deep breathing, engages in hobbies, and takes time to disconnect. When Rosanna’s loved ones are struggling, she emphasizes the importance of communication and active listening, showing love and support.

  • Annie

    MEMBER

Annie has learned the importance of setting boundaries to protect her mental health. She tries not to overcommit, and makes sure to set aside time for herself, even if it is just a few minutes during a busy day.
